A look at Week 12 in Texas High School Football
And just like that, BAM! It’s playoff time for many teams in Texas High School Football this weekend. The Groesbeck Goats wasted no time in letting everyone know in District 9-3A Division I, that they will definitely be in the state title race after stomping all over the Whitney Wildcats last Friday night, 56-15. The win puts the Goats in as the No. 4 seed from the district. Mart and Bremond wrapped up district titles. Both should have no problem advancing to the area round.
Here’s a look at this week’s area matchups:
District 9-3A DI
Groesbeck Goats (6-4) vs. Franklin Lions (8-2)
Place: Groesbeck Stadium in Groesbeck
Kickoff: 7 p.m.

Last playoff appearance: Groesbeck (2016) Bi-district finalist; Franklin (2016) Bi-district finalist
All-time series: Groesbeck leads the series 15-10-1. The last time these two teams met was in 1991, with the Goats coming out on top, 47-12.
Groesbeck: The Goats shifted into high gear against Whitney, leaving nothing to chance in securing the final playoff spot. Groesbeck led at the half, 28-0, with Ameer Lee and Tyrique Carter scoring touchdowns in the first quarter. Quarterback Ty Hale threw two touchdowns in the second quarter. Hale threw for another in the second half and both Lee and Carter scored again. The Goats have momentum going into their bi-district contest tonight, plus they’re getting a chance to play in front of the home crowd.
Franklin: The Lions went undefeated in District 10-3A DI, with wins over Troy, Cameron Yoe, McGregor, Jarrell, Rockdale and Little River Academy. Their only loses were to Caldwell (57-42) and Waco Connally (20-14). Players to watch are quarterback Colton Ortner, Running backs Rashawn Green, Jared Pedraza, Datron Dixon and Clayton Rosprim.
