Martinez new Lady Goat varsity volleyball head coach
Sense of community and small-town values were just two of the things that drew new Groesbeck Lady Goats volleyball head coach Renee Martinez to this area.
Martinez, originally from Waco and a graduate of Reicher High School, spent a lot of her youth with family in nearby Mart, so the small-town atmosphere wasn’t anything new to her when she made the decision to accept the head coaching job here in Groesbeck.
“I was looking for community and Groesbeck seemed to be a fit,” said Martinez. “Strong family, strong values, just the atmosphere of community, that’s what I felt I was missing.”
Martinez was a part-time professor for McLellan Community College in Waco and after raising her family and staying close to the game of volleyball, she felt it was time to get back into coaching after an 18-year hiatus.
She and her husband, who has a private law practice in Waco, have two kids in college and one in high school.
She did her undergrad studies at Sam Houston State University and holds two Masters degrees, one from Tarleton State University and the other from Southwest Texas State University.
She coached high school sports prior to taking time off to start her family.
Martinez will be teaching sophomore English, along with dual-credit history as well as coaching the Lady Goats varsity volleyball team.
