The Groesbeck Goats churned out a 2-1 win over the Grandview Zebras in Game 1 of their best of three area playoff series Friday afternoon in Hillsboro.

“We knew they (Grandview) were going to be a solid team coming in,” said coach Cameron Sellstrom.

The game went into extra innings after both teams were tied 1-1 at the end of seven in what turned out to be a pitcher’s duel.

In the eighth, the Goats took the advantage on the bases after Dylan Rand and Bryston Ferguson led off the inning with back-to-back singles, but the Zebras defense sent both players back to the dugout after forcing each runner out at third base.

With two out and catcher Grant Johnson at second and Brayden Bradley at first, Mark Smith stepped into the batter’s box.
