Outdoors Briefs Whitetail experts say 2022-23 deer harvest was down statewide
Texas has about 700,000 white- tailed deer hunters who routinely harvest about 800,000 deer each fall. The numbers from the 2022- 23 season are not yet crunched, but experts with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department say they won’t be surprised if the tally shows a decline in overall harvest statewide, possibly as much as 6- 9 percent.
Lady Goats win three of four at tourney, improve to 9-1
The Groesbeck softball team raised its record to 9-1 by winning three of four games at the Whitney Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 23, through Saturday, Feb. 25.

Leopards oust Goats in area round of playoffs, 57-40
The Leopards proved to be as predicted. The Lorena trio of Camden Brock, Carter Pitts and Keegan Powell combined for 51 points as the Leopards claimed a 57- 40 bi- district round victory against the Goats Monday evening at Midway High School in Waco.
