Court accepts $15k for bullet-proof vests; Coolidge resident voices concerns about proposed wind farm

Thanks to a generous donation by the Limestone County Republican Women, the Sheriff’s Office now has $15,000 earmarked for bullet proof vests. The group presented the large check to County Judge Richard Duncan and commissioners at their regular meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 9. Alston spoke about the group’s recent Chilli Supper, and how their donation goal steadily grew as they exceeded their own expectations.

Filing period for 2022 primary opens

The filing period for the 2022 Texas primary elections opened on Nov. 13, allowing candidates to file with their respective party chairs for spots on the March 1, 2022, primary ballot. For primary elections, candidates must file their applications with their state party chairs. If a district is solely contained within a single county, a candidate would file with the county chair.

Grand Jury Indictments

The following indictments were handed down by the Limestone County Grand Jury on October 20. Those listed are not guilty unless and until a court finds otherwise. An indictment simply means there is enough evidence to warrant a trial.

Winter Sculpture Spectacular in Jewett

Even if winter doesn’t bring snow to Jewett, the Jewett Economic Development Corp. will from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, during The Winter Sculpture Spectacular. The forecast predicts 40,000 pounds of snow – enough to make plenty of snowballs, snowmen and snow angels in the Jewett City Park on Highway 79. Additionally, guests can experience a snow slide, sculpture tours and artists, live music, s’mores, face painting, hayrides, Artisan market, inflatables, vendors along with make-it and take-it art classes in the park. The tree-lighting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. All of this will happen on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. This event is free and is meant to positively impact the growth of Jewett.
