Thornton Senior News

The numbers were great Thursday at Senior Citizens in spite of the horrific wind that was trying to blow us down. Those who braved the winds happened to be Lorene Stembridge, Ann Brown, Gayla Lind, Elizabeth Neason, Snuffy Bennett, Woody and Sue Wood, Linda Vest and her sister Brenda, Wilma Lee, Alma McCurry, Earl Mask, Hank and Elle Staniszewski, Gay McBride, Roger Watson, Fonetta Simmons, Wayne Sharp, James Lenamond, Doris Lemley, Janice Bilbrey, Ann Carr and myself. Ann used to be one of our regulars who moved back to Conroe area but still has property on Lake Limestone and came by to visit. So happy to see you, don’t wait so long next time. Linda Vest was welcomed as a first timer and brought her sister Brenda who recently moved here with Linda. Glad to have both of them into “our fold”. Look forward to seeing you each week.

Patriots Rally planned for Nov. 11 in Groesbeck

Just like on 9/11 all Limestone County patriots are invited to join at the four corners of the intersection of Highway 14 and 164 in Groesbeck. We will start at 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov.11. Bring your flag and signs to remind passers bys of the meaning and importance of this day. The fighting in France stopped when the combatants signed an armistice (Truce) at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. The name Armistice Day was changed to Veterans Day in 1954. This solemn day is to honor all Veterans living and dead who served in our armed force during wartime. Take the time to look at the monument on the west side (HWY 14) of our courthouse square. It lists the hundreds of Limestone County residences who gave their lives so that each of us might live free. The price for your freedom is not free. As our society forgets this our freedom is slowly lost.
