State activates Federal COVID-19 Vaccination Program for LTC’S

AUSTIN - Dec. 11 - Governor Greg Abbott announced that the State of Texas will participate in the Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program, a federal program to vaccinate residents and staff of longterm care facilities against COVID-19. The program is free of charge to facilities and sends staff and Pfizer vaccines from partnering Walgreens and CVS locations to these facilities to vaccinate residents and staff who volunteer to participate. Over 1,200 skilled nursing facilities and over 2,000 other long-term care facilities have signed up for this program — totaling more than 225,000 certified beds. The first vaccines included in this program will be provided to pharmacies the week of December 21, 2020, and the program will begin December 28, 2020.

Sale of buses complete

The Groesbeck ISD School Board discussed bus sales and COVID-19 concerns at their regular meeting on Monday, December 14 via ZOOM video conference. In addition to accepting several routine, annual reports, the board heard good news regarding the sale of buses at the request of Board President Tom Sutton. Cowley provided details on the sale of buses. He reported low bids from Louisiana that he had rejected; a bid from Axtell ISD for one special needs bus for $8,000, and a company called Calixo out of California bid to purchase 20 buses, at $10,777 per bus, for a grand total of $215,540, which Cowley awarded the winning bid. The company will wire the funds and come to pick up the buses within 30 days.

Sales tax returns in Bistone counties mostly in the black

The December sales tax returns in the Bistone counties are still mainly in the black, with Mexia still down less than a percentage point and Coolidge down more than 6 percentage points for the month for Limestone County. Both cities, however, are still positive for their year-to-date figures. Teague was the only city in the negative for Freestone County, and by more than 10 percent, but the city was also the only Freestone city in negative territory year to date, at more than 6 percent.
