Spiked: Some Lake Levels Rise in Wake of Hill Country Flood Events

It’s difficult to find a single thread of silver lining in the catastrophic flooding that devastated parts of the Hill Country and claimed well more than 100 lives over the July 4th weekend. If there was one good thing to come out of the biblical flooding event it’s that several major reservoirs across the region got a badly needed drink of water following years of extreme drought.

New World Screwworm

 The folks at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and Texas Animal Health Commission are hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.
 In late June, the state agencies announced the formation of a joint response team tasked with devising a plan aimed at helping defend the state’s multi-billion dollar livestock and wildlife industries from the potentially devastating impacts of an old foe from long ago — the New World Screwworm. The ongoing effort comes as a directive from Governor Greg Abbott.
