Gov. Abbott signs Damon Allen Act into law at Safer Houston Summit

Gov. Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 6, the Damon Allen Act, into law Monday at the Texas Pastor Council’s Safer Houston Summit. The Damon Allen Act will help keep Texas communities safe and secure by prohibiting the release on personal bond of defendants charged with a violent offense or who are charged while released on bail.

THE RACE IS ON...

The Groesbeck High School Seniors voted to make the following students escorts and Homecoming Sweethearts: (l-r) Brenden Morrow, Emma Samford, Paige Parker, Malakai Spivey, Memphis Waddle, Kaitley Edwards, Tyson Pringle, Reece Champion, Tyler Young, Elly Beldin. Votes are underway from the GHS Senior Class and the 2021 Homecoming Queen crowning will take place during the Homecoming game during half-time this Friday, September 17.

HOCO Parade Line up, instructions

Parade Instructions: Please remember if you are on a side road that you do not block residents’ driveways. Absolutely no throwing candy is allowed! You will be removed from the parade if you get caught throwing from your float. You are welcome to have someone walk beside your entry and pass out candy only! The parade is huge this year so we need everyone to work together to keep Safety First. If you are an entry, please follow your designated time slot so that we can this done correctly. COMMUNITY CALENDAR

SEPT. 17 - 19 - Friday, 7 p.m. - Coolidge High School Homecoming: pre-game activities include the crowning of the Ex-Student King and Queen at the coronation; then at 7:30 is the football game. Saturday, 10 a.m. - Morning social at the high school cafetorium. 11 a.m. is the business meeting with speaker Joe Fredrick “Bub” Bennett III of the class of 1992. Noon is the barbecue luncheon at $15 per plate (Please reserve on Facebook under Coolidge Ex-Student Association so organizers can get a headcount). 8 p.m. to midnight is the Street Dance featuring the Gordon Collier Band at $10 each or $16 per couple.
