ASSE International Student Exchange Programs, in cooperation with area high schools, is looking for local families to host boys and girls age 15 to 18 for the 2020-2021 school year. Students from places like Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan, and Ukraine have received scholarships to study in the US.
When the Texas Department of Criminal Justice wrote all Texas sheriffs on April 11 that it would no longer accept county inmates, effective Monday, April 13, all sheriffs in the state had to assess how the decision would affect their respective jails.
The McKinney-Vento Act was enacted federally in 1987 in Texas, ensuring that children and youth who do not have permanent housing have access to school and preschool. The act grants children and other youth the rights to enroll in school, stay enrolled, get transportation to and from campus, and become academically successful.
Recent data from a new study published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that COVID-19 may travel on shoes and footwear of medical staff. This could transmit the virus carriers. The study also determined that the virus was detected in the air up to four meters away from patients diagnosed with the virus, in addition to high levels on floors, trash cans and handrails in hospitals. The study does have flaws, in that the tests performed do not indicate the amount of viable virus. In addition, the minimal infectious dose is unknown, so transmission through air cannot be strictly determined at this point.
