Laurencio Gonzalez, aka Laurencio Gonzalez-Toribio, pleaded guilty Oct. 21 to two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, and confessed to three other charges of Indecency with a Child. Gonzalez’s crimes involved sexually assaulting two children under the age of 4 who had been around Gonzalez because of family connections.

The fighting in France stopped when the combatants signed an armistice (Truce) at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. The name Armistice Day was changed to Veterans Day in 1954. This solemn day is to honor all Veterans living and dead who served in our armed force during wartime. Take the time to look at the monument on the west side (HWY 14) of our courthouse square. It lists the hundreds of Limestone County residences who gave their lives so that each of us might live free. The price for your freedom is not free. As our society forgets this our freedom is slowly lost.
Limestone County commissioners handled several routine matters at their regular meeting Tuesday, Oct. 26, including the approval of the 2021 tax roll as presented by Tax Assessor Collector Stacy Hall, before engaging in a workshop to consider the need for redistricting of political boundaries within the county.
Early voting numbers have been low. As of Monday at 5 p.m. 170 people had voted early according to Limestone County Elections Administrator Jennifer Southard. At the time of press on Tuesday, an additional 44 people had voted for a total of 214. Early voting for the November 2 Constitutional Amendment Special Election began on Monday, October 18, and will end on October 29 at 5 p.m.
