One of my favorite parts of serving House District 13 is getting out across the district and visiting the small businesses that keep our rural communities alive. HD 13 covers a lot of ground — more than three hours from one end of the district to the other, but no matter where I go, I make it a point to stop in and visit local businesses along the way.

When his father decided to retire back in 2019 after 50-plus years in the seed business, Dr. Richard Myrick said he had just one question for his dad: After so many years out in the field, what did he think were some of the greatest advances in agriculture?

Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments” (Ps. 119:6). When we pray and apply the commandments of God, His Word, then we have nothing to be ashamed of. The word commandment means, “the idea of prohibition.” When the children of Israel left the commandments of God they became idolaters. “And they left all the commandments of the Lord their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal” (2 Ki. 17:16). If we leave God and His Word out of our prayer life we can become as the children of Israel and start to worship idols. “And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoida the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the Lord, that ye cannot prosper? Because ye have forsaken the Lord, he hath also forsaken you” (2 Chr. 24:20). How often is it that each of us neglect just praying during the day? How often have we failed to attend church? How often have we neglected to tell someone about the love of Jesus? Pray for wisdom to follow the commandments of God.
