Who Provides Comfort For Us? A Weekly Devotional

God has made a promise that he will comfort all that trust in him. “For the Lord shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody” (Isa. 51:3). “Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God” ( 2 Cor. 1:4). The word comfort means, “to speak, hence persuasion; persuasive discourse.” If you expect or experience the benefit of God’s compassions to yourselves, be compassionate one to another. We must care for others in love and kindness but not be busy bodies in other men’s matters. Neither inward nor outward peace and love can be enjoyed, without lowliness of our mind. In the high-tech society in which we live today many find comfort on the internet. Others find comfort from work, school, trusted friends and many other sources. It is vital that we have personal experience of God’s comfort before we can pass it on to others. When is the last time you received comfort from God through His Word or prayer? When is the last time you passed on to another person the comfort of God?

And once again, it’s the rural legislators who paid the price.
