Shepherds Sayings

The Old Testament speaks in many different places of the Love of God for his people. 1 Kings (10:9) mentions, “The Lord’s eternal love for his people”. The prophet Jeremiah says, “The Lord appeared to us in the past saying, “I have loved you with an everlasting love.”(32:3) Hosea speaks of God’s eternal love for his people like this, “When Israel was a child, I loved him.” (11:1) The prophet Malachi pointing to God’s choice of his people heard the Lord God say, “I have loved you.” (1:2) Finally, Isaiah seeking to convince the people of God’s deep love for them said, “See, I have engraved you on the palm of my hands.” (49:16)

Shepherds Sayings

Some of Jesus’ teachings in the Sermon on the Mount trouble us. Jesus taught that a Christian could run into trouble. He said, “Blessed are those persecuted because of righteousness. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven.” (Matt. 5:10-12)
