The 2025-26 Texas High School basketball season is nearing fast-break mode, as several teams will be playing in tournaments after the Thanksgiving break. Meanwhile, the 2025-26 preseason rankings are out, and in Class 3A Boys poll, the Mexia Blackcats begin the season ranked at No. 5, while fellow Limestone County team, the Coolidge Yellowjackets are ranked No. 8 in Class 1A.
Just yesterday, we were thinking that there’s no way that it’s the start of the 2025 high school football season, but it was. Fast forward almost three months later, and talk shifts to “I can’t believe the football season is nearly over.” You know the drill… but it is!
The Coolidge Lady Jackets season came to an end Nov. 6, when they fell to the Blum Lady Bobcats in the Class 1A Regional Quarterfinals playoff match, 9-25, 7-25, 15-25. The Lady Jackets went undefeated in district play, and end the year as the Class 1A, Region eIII Regional Quarterfinalist. Coolidge had a first round bye, then beat Aquilla in four sets in the Area round to advance to the Regional Quarterfinals. Blum moves on to face the Dodd City Lady Hornets in the Regional Finals.
This week’s schedule for area basketball teams are out, and several schools have already started the season. Other teams continue their seasons after advancing to the UIL playoffs in football and volleyball this week, and possibly next week as well.
