GMS Football Teams Recognized

The Groesbeck ISD Board of Trustees applauded the success of the seventh and eighth-grade football teams at their meeting on Monday, April 18, where Principal Kenna Moody presented them with their District Champion Trophies. The seventh-grade team lost only one game all season to become Distinct Champs for the 2021 season, and the current eighth-grade team accomplished the impressive feat of back-to-back District Championships, earning the title as seventh graders in 2020 and again this past season in 2021. Besides the young athletes, many parents were in attendance to witness this well-deserved recognition, and Athletic Director Steve Bomar said a few words praising the work ethic and class of the athletes that will be dominating in Goat Stadium in the years to come.

Storms cause big damage to historic downtown building

Multiple power lines were down in Groesbeck on Tuesday night due to powerful thunderstorms and strong winds sweeping through the area. One downtown historic building (Rand Oil) was damaged with a front window being blown out. Tuesday’s storm caused multiple downed trees and power lines as well as some property damage. On Angeline street, a large uprooted tree was found, while many residents experienced power outages in the 200-400 blocks North Grayson, 100-200 blocks West Navasota, 200 East Angeline, and others. City crews were working hard to clear streets while police and fire worked hard to secure multiple scenes late into the night.
