Disappointed

Disappointed means “not as appointed” or not as planned.” It can take one form for a child and another for the adult. We are living in an up-side down world and can feel the changes in our society away from the values of the past. We turn the television on and hear a person say one thing in the morning and then the opposite in the evening. Our children may misbehave at school, and we receive a call seeking our help from the teacher. A husband or wife may abandon the family completely. God is not a God controlled by circumstances, but He is a God who controls them. The psalmist said, “My times are in thy hands O Lord.” He is saying the God who created us, upholds and sustains us, is the God who is sovereign over every circumstance in our life. The things that disappoint us are disappointments because we cannot discern God’s plan and distinguish the movements of His love within our life. People will disappoint us, yet God will never disappoint us. How easy it is for us to get our eyes on men and their failure and lose sight of Jesus Christ. Dwelling on our own disappointment is turning our eyes inward instead of upward. The bible says, “Look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.” What disappointments are keeping you from a closer walk with Christ?
