The Lamb of God
John when he baptized Jesus said, “behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” God in his great love for the men and women of this world has given a clear picture of Jesus as a lamb through the entire Old Testament. It started in the garden when Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s Word. Animal skins provided a covering for their bodies. Abraham when he offered his only son Isaac as a sacrifice had God intervene and provide a lamb. The Levitical sacrifices in the Old Testament clearly demonstrate a sacrifice of a lamb. In all of this no sacrifice in the Old Testament is every mentioned that could take away the sins of the world. The words take away mean carrying away, blotting out, removing the sin debt we owed God. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Jesus’ one sacrifice is available at all times for every sinner who will trust Him. The sin we must confess before him is unbelief in Jesus death burial and resurrection to provide entrance for all who will only believe. No more lambs are necessary, only belief on Jesus Christ the Lamb of God.
