Limestone County Crime Stoppers introduces the new Linda Jordan Scholarship, an exciting opportunity aimed at supporting local high school seniors who after graduating plan to pursue a career in criminal justice. The $500 scholarship is also available to students whose parents are employed by any law enforcement agency within Limestone County, including the Sheriff’s Office, Jail, Department of Public Safety, State Troopers, Game Wardens, Constables, Dispatchers, and Administrative staff in all law enforcement departments.
The annual Fort Parker State Park kid fish which was canceled during the ice storm in January has been rescheduled for this Saturday, Feb. 14. All equipment and bait provided. Park entry is free for participants 17 and under. Registration is required by calling 254-562-5751 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The Blackshear-Washington Alumni hosted their annual Martin Luther King Jr. and Black History Month Celebration, titled “The Dream Still Matters, Never Let It Die,” on Saturday, Feb. 7. The event centered on recurring themes of unity, remembrance and cultural pride.
Stone County Conservatives hosted a “Meet the Candidates” event on Thursday, Feb. 5 at Springfield Hall, and the space was packed. All candidates running for county positions in the March 3 Primary election were in attendance, except for Micah Anderson (incumbent and unopposed for County Commissioner, Pct. 2) and Sheila Winn (running against Jeff Melasky for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 3).
