On Tuesday, May the 16th, 2023, as the sun came out from behind the clouds and warmed her peaceful face, our Beautiful Mother; donning her kilt of green with white stockings, her tam cocked just right and her head held high, took a deep breath and lined up behind the Drum and Bugle Corps of her beloved Scottish Brigade and marched down the field one last time and straight into heaven.

We have lost our family hero. Richard Michael Hempel, born September 19, 1969, gained his wings on May 9, 2023. He is preceded in death by his dad, Fred Hempel, his Grandma Kuhn and his uncle Steve Johnson.
