Shepherds Sayings

There are times when the Church seems to forget its purpose on earth. Times when we have not applied God’s message to the needs of the hour. The sermon of a Chaplain on the eve of the Normandy invasion is a classic example of this failure. The fighting men of his division crowded the chapel. They were hungry for a word that would give meaning to their lives. The Chaplain delivered a rousing sermon on the evils of smoking and drinking to the soldiers, many of whom died within the week. His message gave not bread but a stone! If you had but one day to live and one message to give, what would you tell your friends about the Lord Jesus? I offer the following suggestions.

Shepherds Sayings

Much has been written about the creative power of love. Jesus, the Master Teacher said, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:12) God’s love in our hearts can change us from rebels to obedient followers. God’s love in our hearts can change us from fearfulness to believers filled with assurance. God’s love in our hearts can change us from self-centered persons to faithful friends who are willing to lay down their lives for their friends.
